Sam Adams' Most Expensive Beer EVER!

It's only released every two years. Brewed by the Boston-based Sam Adams. Sam Adams has recently announced the release of this one-of-a-kind, biennial brew, by the name of Utopias. This year will be the 10th release of this one of a kind barrel-aged beer! It is said that they are the pioneers in the barrel aging process, which is now common practice throughout the industry. Some of the batches they are releasing have been aged up to 24 years!

Other than being offered in the awesome containers this brew is quite unique. According to Sam Adams, "It is brewed with  a special blend of two-row pale malt combined with Munich and Caramel 60 malts that impart a rich, ruby color. Three varieties of German Noble hops – Spalt Spalter, Hallertau Mittelfrueh, and Tettnang Tettnanger – are added to balance the sweetness of the malt. After the beer is brewed, the first proprietary brewing method begins – adding special yeast strains. The brewers utilized several yeast strains during fermentation, including one typically reserved for champagne and a “ninja yeast,” created for its ability to survive and continue fermenting in an environment that has such a high alcohol level". With all these ingredients and the long fermentation process the ABV (Alcohol by volume) is 28%. Since the ABV the carbonation will be minimal. So it will be like a cognac then what you'd typically expect from a craft beer.

These releases are highly sought after by the craft beer community, but it will not be easy to get your hands on! Sam Adams will only be releasing about 13,000 units. The first batches will be given to the employees in order by when they were hired. Dso you wanna get your hands on this crazy brew? Well, unfortunately, for some, it is illegal for Utopias to be sold in 12 states do to the high ABV and would have to travel over state lines to pick it up. That includes Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Mississippi, Montana, New Hampshire, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, and Washington. If you are lucky enough to have it sold in your state, it still may be out of some because ...well... it's going to cost you $200. Yeah, that's right, $200. This is obviously not for everyone, you must be a diehard craft beer connoisseur for this one. I'll hopefully be able to get my hands on it eventually.
