Mighty Squirrel IPA Review



       

        Mighty Squirrel is a Boston based brewing company that launched their first commercial craft beer back in 2015. The two co-founders , Henry and Naveen, met at a medical equipment company where they were both product managers. According to their website, both men are fans of a nice celebratory beer and also enjoy staying active. So they wanted to create a beer that fit into their lifestyle. While it is common practice for brewers to remove any proteins, naturally found in barley, Henry and Naveen wanted to use it to there advantage and craft a unique beer. Ending up with there first production beer that had 4 grams of protein per serving. 

Review (Each Category is out of 5 points)

Appearance: 

           The color has a hazy pale amber to it. The head of the beer is white. (4.5/5)


Smell:

           The initial smell has a citrus and fruity smell to it, which must be due to the Citra and Mosaic hops. While not to noticeable you can also smell a hint of pine. Mosaic hops also have a slight piney scent to them as well. (4/5)

Taste:

          First off, just like with the scent, the smell of citrus carries over into the taste. Again, much of that has to do with the Mosaic and Citra hops. This IPA also has a slight bitterness to it, as well. The bitterness and the citrus taste compliment each other well, with the fruitiness in the forefront. Slight bitterness in the after taste, but it is not a turn-off.  (3.75/5)

Feel: 

          Carbonation is moderate still have a decent crisp to it. Slightly dry. The head is nice and has good retention.  (3.75/5)

Overall:

          First time having a beer from Mighty Squirrel and I am a fan. It is not too heavy or too light, it sits somewhere in the middle and that's good enough for me. None of the smells were too strong but the citrus with the faint aroma and taste of the pine was nice. As a novice beer drinker I would definitely recommend it as a beer to try if you ever come across it if it fits your style.

Took a trip to Burlington Vermont this past weekend and visited an amazing craft brewery called Foam Brewers .  This brewery is located right on Lake Champlain in Burlington with a great waterfront view.  I am a massive fan of Double IPAs and fortunately for me Foam Brewers had a impeccable one on tap called Mountain Energy . This delightful Double IPA packed a punch at 9% ABV and had delicious notes of citrus, ripe papaya, and dank.  Mountain Energy gave off an aroma of fruity dank hops.  It was medium bodied, and had an initial blended taste of a few different fruits such as ripe papaya, pineapple, and grapefruit.  The after taste gave a refreshing dank bitter finish.  I would absolutely recommend giving the Mountain Energy a try but it is a rotating craft beer so make sure to check before you go!  #I'dTapThat

Sam Adams' Most Expensive Beer EVER!

Sam Adams has recently announced the release of this one-of-a-kind, biennial brew, by the name of Utopias. This year will be the 10th release of this one of a kind barrel-aged beer! It is said that they are the pioneers in the barrel aging process, which is now common practice throughout the industry. Some of the batches they are releasing have been aged up to 24 years!    Other than being offered in the awesome containers this brew is quite unique. According to Sam Adams, "It is brewed with  a special blend of two-row pale malt combined with Munich and Caramel 60 malts that impart a rich, ruby color. Sam Adams is finally opening a taproom!

BOSTON – For years, the Samuel Adams Brewery in Jamaica Plain was one of the top tourist destinations in Boston, with millions of people visiting each year. But, one thing was missing – you couldn’t enjoy a pint of your favorite Samuel Adams beer. They only allowed samples. That has now changed. Last week, Samuel Adams opened its brand-new taproom at its 30 Germania St. brewery. Now visitors can tour the brewery, taste samples and drink full pints or flights of several of their favorite brews. “It’s awesome. It’s a great space,” said Brewery Manager Jennifer Glanville. ” I really designed the space I want to hang out in. I hang out at a lot of taprooms. This has a lot of casual seating, communal tables.
