Is “Craft Beer” Dying?

Image
Source: SeriousSeats In the past two weeks, two well-respected national beer writers have penned articles foretelling the demise of craft brewing. Neither predicted its death based on competition with big beer or on ingredient shortages or other economic factors, though. Rather, they bemoaned the surging popularity of two different styles, sounding the alarms bells and wringing their hands over the future of beer in America. The first article, “ Boom in Sugary Pastry Stouts Shows Craft Industry Forgetting What Beer Tastes Like ,” by  Chicago Tribune  reporter and author Josh Noel (who is writing a book about Goose Island Beer Company selling out to AB InBev) called out so-called pastry stouts based on the prevalence of these sweet, often barrel-aged beers at a recent festival. “After six hours wandering the aisles of the Festival of Wood and Barrel-Aged Beer last weekend, I have concluded that craft beer is betraying itself,” Noel wrote. “It is forgetting what beer ...

Cannabis Infused Craft Beer Future Booming Industry

Image
"This Bud's for you" will now take on a whole new meaning.  The next big step within the craft beer industry is going to be moving from barley and hops to cannabis.  Former Chief Marketing Officer for Anheuser Busch, Chris Burggraeve , joined an advising comity for  GreenRush  Group out of San Francisco California.   GreenRush  Group says they want to become the "Amazon of weed".  Chris made a second investment co-founding Toast, which specializes in  pre -rolled joints.  The cannabis industry is quickly growing with many investors as its backbone.  Constellation Brand Inc. which sells Corona in the U.S. just invest in Canopy Growth Corporation, a Canadian seller of medical marijuana.  Currently 64% of the United States population wants to lift the ban on cannabis.  In 1969 only 12% of the U.S. population were pro marijuana.  The fight toward legalization has come a long way. Cannabis co...

Craft Beer is not only "For the Boys"

Image
One could argue that Saturdays are, "for the boys" but it would be an unjust argument to say that craft beer is only, "for the boys". To start this off, my friend,  The Beer Broad , would definitely pick out a better beer than me. But numbers also defend my claim that craft beer isn't just for the boys. According to a study done by the Brewers Association, women drink around 25% of all craft beer in America. That means, if you had a group of 4 craft beer drinkers, one of them is going to be a woman. A study done by Stanford in 2014, found that 4% of all brew masters are women. The Craft Beer Program Director for the Brewers Association is a woman by the name of Julia Herz. The Director of Beer Wars is a woman by the name of Anat Baron. A Consultant for Master Cicerone, (a certification that claims you have a superior taste pallet), is a woman by the name of Nicole Erny. I could list some of the women who are co-owners, brew masters, and work directly wi...
